Man gets life term imprisonment for killing wife in Ctg
A Chittagong court on Sunday convicted a man and sentenced him to life-term imprisonment for killing his wife in 2010, reports a news agency.
The convict is Shamsuddin Bahadur, a resident of Uttar Khulshi area of the city.
The court also fined him TK 10,000; by default he has to suffer three months’ imprisonment.
Chittagong Metropolitan public prosecutor (PP) Md Fakhruddin Chowdhury said Shamsuddin was sentenced to life imprisonment as all the charges brought against him were proven.
According to case records, Shamsuddin Bahadur strangulated his wife Nurnahar Begum to death on February 5, 2010, over dowry.
Later, he hanged the body with the ceiling of the bathroom of their house to make it appear like a suicide.
The victim’s father Amir Safa filed a murder case with Khulshi Police Station in this connection.
Police submitted the charge sheet against Shamsuddin on June 30, 2011.
After examining records and 25 witnesses, Chittagong Senior Special Judge-1 Md. Shahe Nur handed down the verdict.
