HC asks C’nawabganj SP to appear on Dec 4
The High Court (HC) on Sunday ordered the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chapainawabganj to appear before it on December 4 to explain his reported comments.
An HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the suo moto order following a report published in the daily ‘Amader Somoy’ on Saturday over his comments ‘provoking people to take law into their hands’, reports UNB.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why legal steps would not be taken against SP Mujahidul Islam for his comment.
Cabinet secretary, Home Affairs secretary, secretary of the Ministry of Law, Inspector General of Police, SP and deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj, were made respondents to the rule.
The court also asked the editor of the vernacular daily to attend before the court with necessary evidence of the claim published in the report.
A report was published in the daily on Saturday that said that the SP asked people to kill robbers if caught red handed.
Md Ashrafuzzaman, a lawyer of the High Court, produced the report before the court in the morning. –RH
