Graft case against Ershad
HC order on ACC petition today
The High Court will pass order today (Thursday) on a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in a case for alleged corruption by former president HM Ershad in purchasing radar for the Air Force during his tenure, reports BSS.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan set the date on Wednesday after conclusion of hearing on the plea.
The anti-graft watchdog filed the petition with the High Court as lower court on November 8 dismissed its plea to record the depositions of the witnesses afresh.
The now-defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau on May 4, 1992 filed the case against the Jatiya Party leader for causing a loss of more than Tk64 crore to the state exchequer by buying a substandard radar from the US at a higher price instead of buying a more modern version from France.
