Gopalganj farmers start growing winter veg
GOPALGANJ, Nov 23: Farmers of Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila in the district are now cultivating winter vegetables in their lands.
Sources said a total of 2825 hectares of land have been brought under vegetable cultivation this season with an output target of 29,070 tonnes.
Vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, coriander, radish and different types of Shaks are being grown here and being transported to other districts after meeting the local demand.
Barun Kanti Bishwas (55), a farmer of village Silna, said he is cultivating leafy vegetables on 30 decimals of land. His production cost was Tk 8,000.
The grower also said he has already made Tk 15,000 profit and expecting to earn Tk 7,000 to Tk 8,000 more this season if the weather condition and market prices will remain favourable.
Sources said Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), Gopalganj, provides quality seeds among the farmers to boost the production.
