Experts underscore easy-term loan to boost production of spice, pulse
RANGPUR, Nov 22 (BSS): Easy-term agriculture loans were being disbursed as per government instructions at four per cent interest rate among farmers to inspire them in enhancing production of spices and pulses, experts said on Monday.
They put emphasis on reaching information about the easy-term loans to the farmers so that they could easily avail the loans from different public and private sector commercial banks to increase production of spices and pulses.
The experts made these observations at an open loan distribution ceremony organised by Mercantile Bank Limited (MBL) in the hall room of Tupamari Samaj Kallyan Sangstha (TSKS) under Sadar Upazila in Nilphamari, a press release said.
Nilphamari Branch of MBL distributed over Tk 0.49 million (4.95 lakh) loans among 33 small and marginal farmers with Tk 15,000 each on the occasion for six months period for cultivation of spices and pulses during this Robi season.
With Chairman of TSKS Arati Rani Roy in the chair, Assistant Vice-president and Head of Nilphamari Branch of MBL Md Manjur Hossain attended the ceremony and distributed loans as the chief guest.
Programmememe Coordinator for Nilphamari unit of RDRS Bangladesh KM Rashedul Arefin, its Senior Programmememe Coordinator (Micro-finance) Golam Mostafa, Principal Officer and Manager, Operation of Nilphamari Branch of MBL Sayed Abdullah Al Mahdi and its Senior Executive Officer Rabiul Islam addressed the ceremony as special guests.
Rashedul Arefin appreciated the MBL initiative of disbursing easy-term agriculture loans among the small and marginal farmers, who are also male and female members of TSKS, to assist them in cultivating various spicy crops and pulses.
"The local farmers would be able to avail the easy-term loans from MBL to boost production of mustard, onion, garlic, ginger, chilli and other spicy crops as well as pulses to earn more profits and contribute to the national economy," he hoped.
The chief guest said that the initiative of disbursing easy-term agriculture loans among the farmers at only 4.0 per cent interest rate was taken to further dynamism the government efforts of enhancing production of spicy crops and pulses in the country. "The loan recipient farmers would definitely be able to increase production of spices and pulses adopting the four cropping pattern evolved by RDRS Bangladesh ensuring best use of the easy-term loans to earn more profits," he said.
