‘One million women getting benefits of VGD cards now’
The government has brought some 1 million women under Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) cards across the country.
“Some 10 lakh women are now under VGD cards across the country. They will get 30 kg of rice per month. They will be given training,” she said, reports UNB.
State Minister for Children and Women Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki was addressing a programme at Dashiarchhara, a former enclave, in Fulbari upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday.
During the programme, the junior minister handed over VGD cards to some 2,950 women of the former enclave.
The junior minister also visited 15 pre-primary schools there.
Presided over by Kurigram deputy commissioner Khan M Nurul Amin, the function was attended, among others, by Children and Women Affairs secretary Nasima Begum, and Director General of Department of Women Affairs Sahin Ahmed Chowdhury. –RH
