HC orders arresting culprits who crippled Shahanur

The High Court Tuesday asked the police to arrest people accused of beating a man, leaving him crippled, for protesting his daughter's harassment in Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah, within 72-hour.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order acting on its own motion.

"A report on today's newspaper came to the attention of the court. The court has asked the superintendant of Jhenaidah police to arrest the accused in 72-hour," said Deputy Attorney General Tapas Kumar Biswas.

The court also asked the concerned police official to submit a report on execution of this order on November 27.

According to the newspaper reports, Shahanur Biswas of village Naldanga under Kaliganj upazila was brutally beaten on October 16 as he protested his daughter's harassment.

Doctors had to amputate both of his legs and four surgeries have been carried out to save his life.

Shahanur is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka, according to BSS. - IH
