Bangladesh's companies can reduce the use of fuel by up to 16 per cent helping to cut the cost up to 21 per cent along with 18 per cent carbon emission, says DANIDA.

The Energy Efficient Engagement (3E) Programme of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) revealed this at a seminar in Dhaka on Saturday.

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in collaboration with Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) and 3E Programme organised the seminar "Bangladesh - A Great Potential for Energy Efficient Industry".

Senior Adviser of DANIDA Stephen Skare Enevoldsen said that observing the operation of 36 factories in Bangladesh, the 3E Programme had calculated that the factories could save total energy cost of US $ 5.2 million (52 lakh) annually and on an average $ .145 milion (1.45 lakh) at each factory.

Most of the recommendations to turn the factories into energy efficient are possible to implement easily spending little amount of money, he said.

Senior Industry Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuyian was present as the Chief Guest while Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh Mikael Hemnity Winther was special guest, according to BSS. – bz
