NETRAKONA, Oct 18 (BSS): The fragrant rice cultivation programme has been gaining popularity in the district.
Farmers have been showing their keen interest for producing the export quality rice as they can easily earn more cash money through selling it.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said farmers cultivated five varieties of the Aman paddy, which are known as Barri-Dhan-34, Kalozira, Tulsimala, Chinishail and Nunia, on 12,073 hectares of land in the district with a target of producing over 20,000 tonnes of the rice this year.
Different state-run agencies including BADC and BCIC supplied improved quality seeds, fertilisers and other agro-inputs to the farmers. The crops specialists and field-workers of DAE rendered field-level service to inspire the cultivators for producing the rice maintaining its quality for fulfilling the demands of the buyers in home and abroad.
Deputy Director of DAE Bilash Chandra Paul said the farmers of the district produced 12,366 tonnes of the paddy varieties last year by cultivating the five varieties of the Aman paddy.
The rice growers were highly benefited last year for getting high prices of the rice and its better output, he said, adding that many farmers have shown their keen interests for producing the rice this year after observing the high demands of the rice in the markets across the country and abroad.
