Manpower shortage

HONOURABLE Minister for Public Administration said in national assembly on June 16, 2016 that 328,311 posts are lying vacant under different ministries and departments of the government. He gave this statistics based on a report published by the BBS in October, 2015. The number of vacant posts will certainly be higher in 2016. The minister informed that 1,382,393 people are working in public sector. This means that the administration is running with a manpower shortage of 20 per cent. As a result, the regular work schedule has been collapsing.

With a shortage of manpower by 20 per cent, we believe, our government will not be able to achieve VISION 2021. In its annual report the PSC states that it is ready to recommend at least 3,000 Non-Cadre candidates from 35th BCS exam for different vacant first and second class posts. Despite repeated endeavours of the PSC, no ministry has come forward to place its demand in this respect. This is unfortunate as no government can function properly with manpower shortage.
