Shariatpur teenage boy beaten to death
A teenage boy was reportedly beaten to death on allegations of stealing a mobile phone.
The incident was reported from Gosairhat Upazila of Shariatpur district on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.
Police said the victim was identified as 18-year-old Firoz Sardar, a resident of Mitrasen Patti at the town.
Gosairhat police OC Mofazzal Hossain said they have recovered the body on and sent to the local state-run hospital for an autopsy.
The victim's family said he was severely beaten by four to five men at the behest of Abdus Salam Peda, who owns a hotel in the town.
Peda called Sardar around 2am on Sunday and told him to come to the dock area, said mother Mahmuda Begum.
According to her, Peda confronted Sardar about a stolen mobile phone and then beat him with the help of others.
“They called me later on my phone and told me what had happened. Firoz (Sardar) was taken to Gosairhaat Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead,” she said.
Police have detained the hotelier's son, 20-year-old Bappi Peda over the incident. –RH
