Inmate dies at Gazipur's Kashimpur prison after taken to hospital

A prisoner convicted for possessing narcotics has died at the Kashimpur prison in Gazipur.

Thirty-year-old Badal Miah, was pronounced dead by doctors at the Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning, said Jailer Bikash Rahman of Kashimpur Central High Security Prison.

He said that Miah was first taken to the prison a hospital around 4am when he complained of breathing problems.

He was transferred to the medical college hospital as his condition deteriorated.

“Doctors at the hospital’s emergency wing declared him dead around 5:45am,” he said.

Miah had been arrested in Dhaka for the possession of narcotics on Sept 28 and sentenced to six months in jail by a mobile court, said Bikash.

He was brought to Kashimpur prison on Oct 1, according to a news agency.
