Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha has brushed away possibility of using paceman Taskin Ahmed in the forthcoming Tests against England.

The 21-year-old seamer is an essential unit in the limited-overs team for his pace and aggression, but doubt and caution always hung over the injury-prone youngster’s prospects in the longest format.

In fact he had to overcome a major stress fracture right before his international debut. The decision to rope him in for the BCB XI’s second two-day warm-up match with England fuelled speculations that Taskin may be called up for the Tests.

But as far as Hathurusingha is concerned, that was never the plan.

"Has he played any four-day cricket? You think people can do magic straight away? No," the coach said on Saturday.

"They are human. If you haven’t played four-day cricket in your entire life, standing four days on the field and bowling 15 overs is entirely new for him. I don’t want to destroy somebody’s career."

Taskin, however, did play four-day matches but the last one he did was in February 2013 in BCL.

The Tigers’ speedstar played 10 first-class matches after making his debut in November 2011, according to bdnews24.com. – bz
