Plant fruit trees to meet nutrition demand, says Polok
RAJSHAHI, Oct 13 (BSS): Some 55 people, including 17 women, received bank-cheques worth around Tk 3.0 million as profit share of social afforestation in Shingra Upazila of Natore.
Upazila Social Forestry Office organised the programme at DAE office recently.
State Minister for Information and Commu-nication Technology Junaid Ahmed Polok attended the event as the chief guest with UNO Zahidul Islam in the chair.
Divisional Social Forestry Officer Imran Ahmed and Upazila Forest Officer Abdullah Harun were also present on the occasion.
The state minister said plantation of fruit and forest trees is important for ensuring nutritional demands coupled with food security, ecological balance, and biodiversity.
Highlighting various significances of the fruit and fruit trees in terms of the present social and national aspects, he laid emphasis on transforming the tree plantation campaign into a social movement.
"Expansion of the country's forest area up to 25 per cent of the total landscape through extensive tree plantations will protect the country from alarming consequences of the ongoing climate changes," he added.
Explaining various beneficial aspects of tree and homestead gardening in human life, he urged all to plant at least three saplings around their homesteads to help maintain ecological balance.
He said plantation of tree is an investment. Many people have been changing their socio-economic condition through making orchards garden.
