Malaysia police arrest 20 suspected Bangladesh nationals
At least ‘20 people of Bangladesh origin’ were detained by Malaysian marine police while they were trying to enter the country illegally, the state news agency Barnama has reported.

It said they were detained on Tuesday afternoon from Kuala Sungai Bagan Tengkorak in Tanjong Karang.

Port Klang Marine Police acting commanding officer, ASP Mohd Rohaizad Mohd Nasir, was quoted by the news agency as saying that the boat ferrying the illegal migrants from Indonesia, was stopped when it entered Malaysian waters.

The ages of those detained range between 20 and 42, he said.

More than 1,000 Bangladeshis were detained in 2015 in similar fashion while they were trying to sneak into Malaysia by sea.

The incidents had attracted global attention when many among them died of hunger and thirst trying to make the voyage, lured by middlemen, according to a news agency. - bz
