RAB nab trader for terror financing
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel nabbed a businessman from Uttara area of Dhaka on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in terror-financing.
The arrestee was identified as Manjur Elahi, 37, a garment accessory businessman and son of Prof Sultan Ahmed of Kalapania in Swandip upazila of Chittagong, according to a news agency report.
Chandan Deb, assistant director (Media) of RAB-7, said tipped off a team the elite force conducted a raid in the area in the early hours and arrested Elahi.
Elahi is accused in two cases -- one filed with Banshkhali Police Station and another with Hathazari Police Station -- on charge of financing militant outfit Shaheed Hamza Brigade (SHB), the assistant director said.
Elahi had been on the run after the filing of the cases against him.
The police officer said after examining the bank accounts of SHB chief Maniruzzaman Masud, it was found that Manjur Elahi deposited Tk 0.42 million to his account in 2014, according to a news agency report.
