Jt team snaps gas lines of two Comilla CNG stations
A joint team of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Petrobangla and Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (BGDCL) in a drive on Monday snapped gas connections of two CNG (compressed natural gas) refuelling stations in Comilla on charge of stealing gas through illegal connections.
Sources said the team led by BGDCL Managing Director Engineer Mohammad Rezaul Islam Khan raided "Highway Link CNG Filling Station" and "RNR CNG Filling Station" in Miabazar area of the district and detected theft of gas through tampering with their meters and promptly disconnected the meters.
The team also comprised BGDCL Engineering Services Division general manager Engineer Mohammad Yusuf Ali and deputy general manager (sales) Engineer Mahbubur Rahman.
The operation was conducted as part of the crackdown launched at a directive of the Prime Minister's Office to curb the pilferage of gas through illegal connections by a number of CNG refuelling stations, a means through which they deprive the government of revenue in tens of millions of taka from the energy sector monthly.
During the crackdown, the authorities disconnected illegal gas connections of eight such CNG stations in the district in the past several days.
However, the crackdown would continue, said the BGDCL MD.
