ASAUBMUN (ASA University Bangladesh Model United Nation) was a milestone event for student communities for both awareness and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). On the way to establish the theme of UN "Achieving Gender Equality through Empowerment of all women ", House of Youth Dialogues with ASA University Bangladesh has successfully organised its first big initiative - which was to engage the youths with the UN's agenda through Model United Nations.
Acknowledging the importance of women empowerment in the society, the theme was just the same as UN's agenda. The three-day conference from September 1 to 3, 2016 was held in ASA University premises in Shamoly, Dhaka. The enthusiastic secretariat panel of ASAUBMUN'16 hosted 200 delegates from 15 different institutions across the country. Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, Vice-chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh attended the programme.
Advocate Fazilatunnesa Bappy, member of parliament (MP) and special guest of the programme spoke about women empowerment. She shared the historical revolutions of Bangladesh where women took valuable roles. In every war and revolution, such as in 1952, 1969 and 1971, women played important roles for the country. Chief guest Bangladesh Railway Minister Majibul Hoque shared his personal life story and spoke about how women are taking part in building not only family, but also country, society and nation.
The president of House of Youth Dialogue (HYD) Zahid Hasan also spoke about the necessity of Model United Nations on the real ground from our country's perspective. He said, "We're no more citizens of Dhaka or citizens of Bangladesh, rather we're global citizens and now it's the time to change and reshape the world with peace and equality".
Especially focusing on the Sustainable Development Goal Project of UN the ASAUBMUN'16 was decorated with five different agendas of seven committees. There were SAARC, UNSC, UNHRC, UNHCR, and GA6- Legal. Continuous Crisis Committee and International Press Corporations added an indispensable flavour to the conference. International Press conducted press briefing, broadcasted 'Breaking News'24 hours and updated news with videos and audio interviews. Continuous Crisis dealt with six different global issues. The Chairperson Golam Samin Rahman expressed, "These 29 youth minds can really be the next JF Kennedies of Bangladesh if they get the nourishment like last three days". An important agenda regarding Arctic Region was discussed in UNSC. Md. Shafkath Aziz, Director of UNSC expressed his satisfaction saying "It was surprisingly awesome to be with promising future award winning delegates". ASAUBMUN 2016 was a positive podium to involve the youths towards achieving SDG.
