Accidents during Eid holidays leave 265 dead
The Bangladesh Passengers’ Welfare Association on Wednesday said that more than 265 people were killed and at least 1,153 others injured in separate accidents on roads, railways and river routes during Eid-ul-Azha holidays in the country.
Addressing a press briefing at the National Press Club in Dhaka, BPWA General Secretary Muzammel Haque Chowdhury said the 265 died in a total of 211 accidents on the roads and highways, rail and waterways.
Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, was observed in Bangladesh on September 13.
The BPWA leader said among the deceased, 248 were killed in road accidents. He said another 1,056 were injured in road crashes. -bz
