CI seizes 16kgs liquid tobacco
Customs Intelligence (CI) seized on Tuesday 16 kilograms of liquid tobacco at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) that was imported through a false declaration.
Tipped off, the package was seized from the foreign post office area of the airport on September 18 which was identified as liquid tobacco Tuesday morning after investigation, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan told the media.
He said the importer tried to take delivery of the package mentioning it as merchandising sample in the bill of entry that evades around Tk 1.6 million duty.
Bottled liquid tobacco of different brands that is used as refill agent in e-cigarette, was imported from US via Qatar Airways flight No- 634 by Vape Company located in capital's Shewrapara, Mr Moinul said.
The importer has paid total of 37.07 per cent duties on the product, though the company was supposed to pay total of 289.21 per cent duties on liquid tobacco as per HS Code.
The CI DG said a case will be filed against the company accusing it for importing products on false declaration.
