Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a message to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, condemned the recent terrorist attack on an army base at Uri in Kashmir on Sunday, saying the attack has deeply saddened her.

"I am deeply saddened to learn about the dastardly terrorist attack on the army base at Uri, Kashmir killing 17 soldiers and injuring many on 18 September 2016," she said in a message sent Monday, reports BSS.

On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, the Premier extended her deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Indian Prime Minister and bereaved families of the soldiers who lost their precious lives in the attack.

She prayed for early recovery of the injured personnel.

"Bangladesh strongly condemns terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations. In line with its "zero tolerance" policy against terrorism and violent extremism, Bangladesh firmly stands beside India at this difficult hour," Hasina said in the message.

"As a close friend and neighbour, we would continue to work together in our common endeavour to eradicate the menace of cross-border terrorism from this region and beyond," she added.
