Around 7,000 sacrificial animals remain unsold in Magura
MAGURA, Sept 19: Around 7,000 unsold cattle have raised concern among the rearers of the district.
Sources said about 30,000 cattleheads were fattened to sell in the Eid market. Rearers were also hopeful of the market price. But at the eleventh hour, comparatively cheaper Indian cattle dominated the local markets leaving the local cultivators in a difficult situation.
Fattaul Alim, a rearer of village Jagla under the same upazila, said, "I fattened four cattle to sell in the Eid market. But I was able to sell only two."
"Now it is difficult for me to repay Tk 0.1 million that I took from a local money lender as a loan in the purpose of cattle rearing. The lender keeps putting pressure on me to return the money. But in this situation it is impossible to me as two cattle are still unsold", he added
On the other hand, he further said, he has to spend Tk 300 everyday for feeding up the two cattle.
Magura district livestock officer Kanai Lal Sharnaker denied the allegation of dominating markets by the Indian cattle.
