Villagers construct bamboo-made bridge over Jamuneswary river in Nilphamari
NILPHAMARI, Sept 18: Villagers have set an example of voluntary and collective effort to build a bamboo-made bridge (Shako) on local Jamuneswary River in No.5 ward of Tupamari union parishad of Sadar Upazila. Hundreds of people enthusiastically took part in building the bridge.
Firstly, the villagers collected materials such as bamboos, iron strings and so on. Some wealthy persons contributed cash money and some others gave bamboos free of cost for the purpose.
The 100-feet bridge would enable the people of nearby locality to cross the river Jamuneswary easily either on foot or along with their bicycles. The bridge would also immensely help the school and college going students and teachers.
Abul Kashem, a pioneer organiser of the feat, said the villagers were suffering for the lack of a bridge over the river. He said villagers also applied to the local LGED office and the chairman of UP but failed to get any positive response. Afterwards they themselves decided to build the bridge on their own effort which completed very successfully.
Moshirat Ali Shah Fakir, chairman of Tupamari UP, said the initiative is certainly very appreciable and it is an example of voluntary work which would encourage others in future. He would send a requirement letter to the LGED office for the construction of the bridge with concrete materials.
