Bogra DAE expects 0.7m tonnes of T-Aman output this season
BOGRA, Sept 18: The growers of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy are passing busy time rearing their croplands aiming for a bumper production. They are looking to recoup the losses incurred due to the recent flood.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Bogra, sources said the flood damaged Aman seedling worth at least Tk 120 million.
Cultivators of the district have brought over 1,90,800 hectares of land under the paddy cultivation aiming this season against around 1,80,600 hectares fixed by the department, the sources said, adding, the expecting output of the paddy variety is about 0.7 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, around 1200 flood-affected farmers of Shonatola, Shariakandi and Dhunot upazilas have been provided seedlings for 2.5 bighas of land each by the government.
Saiful Islam, 40, a farmer of Gunaher village under Dupchanchia Upazila, said, "I have brought five bighas of land under T-Aman cultivation spending Tk 30,000 in current season. I expect to make a profit of Tk 80,000 from the crop if the weather condition and market rate remain favourable." he added.
Farmers of the district have urged the government to arrange incentives for them in this current Aman season.
