FE Report

Two local leading business entities-Epyllion Group and PHP Family-have received the sixth Standard Chartered-Financial Express Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award-2016 for their outstanding contributions to communities beyond their corporate practices.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed over the 6th SCB-FE CSR awards to the recipients as the chief guest at a function held at the Westin Hotel in the capital on Wednesday.

Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Chairman of the 12-member CSR award committee, announced names of the winners in consideration of their roles in various arenas, especially in the fields of health, education, promotion of young talents and green manufacturing practices.

Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of PHP Family, and Reaz Uddin Al-Mamoon, Managing Director of Epyllion Group, received the awards on behalf of their respective organisations.

Speaking on the occasion, Reaz Uddin Al-Mamoon said: "We do more charity, we do less CSR but we need to do more for the society.

Certainly this award will give us more motivation."

Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of PHP Family, said they had started the business with only Tk 100 but they are now paying Tk 4.0 billion to the national exchequer.

"The crucial question is what we're doing for others. The more we do for others, the more we'll get in returns," he said.

"We must recognise success whenever it happens. That's the reason I came here," Finance Minister AMA Muhith said in his speech.

He said Bangladesh has been making very good progress consistently over the last 25 years. "The country will sustain its growth, if our resources are used properly, and of course, those are not siphoned off."

The Financial Express (FE) Editor AHM Moazzem Hossain gave the vote of thanks.
