RAB personnel arrested the owner of sunken launch ‘Pinak-6’ in Chittagong city early Wednesday. Being tipped off, a special team of RAB headquarters in association with RAB-7 conducted a drive at Agrabad in the port city early in the morning and nabbed Abu Bakar Siddique, alias Kalu, the owner of MV Pinak 6, the launch that capsized in Padma River in Munshiganj district on August 4 with over 300 passengers on board. On August 5, a murder case was filed with Lauhajang Police Station in Munshiganj accusing 6 people, including Kalu, over Pinak-6 capsize. BIWTA transport surveyor Jahangir Bhuiyan filed the case against six, including the owner, sareng (master) and rider of Pinak 6. Kalu went into hiding following the tragedy and was absconding till his arrest today. However, the sareng of the launch who is also absconding since the tragedy struck, could not be held yet. Arrested Abu Bakar is a resident of South Medinimondol village of Lauhajang near Mawa Ghat. Abu Bakar’s cell phone was found switched off immediately after the launch overturned near Mawa Turning Point in mid-Padma River on Aug 4, according to private TV channels.
