Bangladesh Thursday signed an agreement with Denmark on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investment, reports UNB.
Industries Secretary Dewan Zakir Hossain and Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Einar H Jensen signed the agreement for their respective governments at a simple ceremony at the Industries Ministry.
Industries Minister Dilip Barua and Denmark's Head of the Department of Asia and the Pacific Martin Hernann were, among others, present at the signing ceremony.
The agreement, which aims at protecting and promoting foreign investment and boosting bilateral trade, spelled out the overall framework for bilateral investments in the two countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Industries Minister Dilip Barua said Bangladesh was a unique place for foreign investors where they could invest their capital and earn profit as the industries friendly atmosphere was prevailing in the country.
"We will try our level best in ensuring security for the foreign investors and their capital in Bangladesh. Danish companies can invest in emerging ship-building and IT sectors," he said.
Danish Ambassador Einar H Jensen said they were very proud to sign this agreement with the government of Bangladesh.
"The agreement is first of all an important signal to Danish companies who want to invest in Bangladesh. They can now be more confident about their investment in Bangladesh," he said.
