Fire gutted valuables and machinery of a garment factory worth Tk 0.5 million (Tk 5 lakh) at West Shewrapara in the city's Mirpur area Monday morning, firefighters said.

Fire brigade sources said the flame that originated from a short circuit in the switch room of Spicy Fashion Ltd at about 7:45am engulfed other parts of the apparel plant in no time and caused the damage.
