The United Airways, a private airline operator of Bangladesh, will run its London flights twice a week from next month to grab a share of the lucrative international aviation market, officials said.
Earlier, GMG Airline, the country's first private airline operator, had launched its flights on the Dhaka-London route.
"We've taken all steps to launch our Dhaka-London flights from the second week of November," Kamrul Islam, manager of the United Airways, told the FE.
According to sources, around 200,000 passengers, mostly from greater Sylhet, travel between Dhaka and London.
The airline is procuring an MD-83 aircraft with a capacity of 155 passengers for the route.
"The procedure of purchasing the MD-83 from Romania has already been completed, we're now waiting for receiving it," said a senior financial official of the airline.
Currently, the United Airways has three aircraft--one MD-83 and two Dash-8s.
