NILPHAMARI, Oct 17: The harvesting of anti-monga early harvestable BRRI 33 paddy has started in the district and it is expected to get momentum within a week.
This short duration paddy is being cultivated to create job opportunity for farm labourers in the waiting period between planting and harvesting of traditional Amon paddy in the region.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), BRRI 33 cultivation is a model monga mitigation programme of the government as this could be harvested within 110 days from the date of transplantation of the seedlings.
In this year a total of 10,100 hectres of land were brought under BRRI 33 cultivation in the district and production target was 24,300 tonnes.
