Adequate works of research are not coming out of the country's private universities for lack of proper research environment, lamented UGC member Prof Dr Ehsanul Haque Sunday, reports UNB.

"Most of the private universities don't attach due importance to developing the research environment. So, adequate research works do not come out from these universities," said Prof Ehsanul Haque, who supervises the private university division of the UGC, replying to a query at the Meet-the-Press programme.

The University Grants C2 ommission (UGC) organised the programme at its auditorium to announce the names of the winners its award.

This time, the UGC Award will be given to 19 eminent researchers and teachers for their unique research works for the years 2006 and 2007. Among the 54 private universities, only three teachers will be awarded.
