Mr Faruk Ahmad Siddiqi, a former secretary of the government, has joined Southeast Bank Limited as chief of Capital Market Division, said a press release.

Mr Siddiqi started his career by joining erstwhile Pakistan Taxation Service in 1969 after completing MA in English from the Dhaka University.

During his long career in government service, he held important positions in the services of the Republic.

He was the Member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Secretary of the ministries of Posts and Telecommunication, Education and Commerce.

After retirement, he held the position of chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Mr Siddiqi attended a good number of important international conferences and headed Bangladesh delegation in negotiating tax treaties of Bangladesh with other countries.

Mr Siddiqi is recognised as an expert on trade, tax and capital market related issues in Bangladesh, the release added.
