FE Report
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sent a proposal to the finance ministry seeking permission to extend the deadline for submission of individual tax returns by one month, said an official.
The last date for submission of individual tax returns expires on Wednesday (September 30).
The revenue board, in consideration of the prolonged holidays on account of Eid-ul Fitr followed by Durga puja and requests from business communities, has taken the move to extend the date.
The NBR received less than 3.0 per cent response from the individual taxpayers until Sunday, he said.
The NBR has received requests from cross-section of people including business community to extend the time, he said.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Annisul Huq made a request to the revenue board chairman through a letter Sunday for extension of the returns submission date.
Many income taxpayers will not be able to pay income tax in the stipulated time frame due to holy Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Durga Puja, FBCCI president said in the letter.
"Business communities has urged the apex chamber to request the government for extension of income tax return submission date," the letter further said.
