"Digitalisation of Bangladesh can be achieved by providing the common people easy access to telecommunication," said Minister for Post and Telecommunications Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju.

He was speaking as chief guest at the unveiling ceremony of Warid Telecom's (WT) new logo on Wednesday in the city.

People of remote corners of the country can have easy communication access as the government introduced mobile WiMAX. Because it potentially replaced cell phones and mobile data offerings from cell phone operators, the minister added.

"Our first and foremost agenda is to serve the people of Bangladesh with the best quality and competitive mobile services," WT chief executive director Muneer Farooqui said.

New brand and logo being the symbols of recognition will portray a uniform brand image and identity of Warid group. The logo blends six brand values including innovation, dynamism and quality which reflect all aspects of the business as a promise to the customers, he added.

Over 4000 people have been provided jobs through direct and indirect channels by Warid. It has invested around US$ 600 million and paid over Tk 6.50 billion (Tk 650 crore) taxes to the national exchequer.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman Zia Ahmed was special guest at the programme. WT senior manager (marketing and commucnications) Asif Ahmed, general manager (government and operation relations) Ashraful H Chowdhury, among others, were present at the logo unveiling ceremony.
