Prof A Mannan Khan passes away

Dhaka University (DU) Prof ANM Abdul Mannan Khan passed away due to oesophagal cancer and other old age complications at the age of 66 Saturday.

Prof Khan was undergoing treatment at the city's Combined Military Hospital (CMH). He breathed his last at 11:20 am.

He left behind his wife, four sons, five daughters and a host of students, relatives and well-wishers to mourn the death.

His namaj-e-janaza was held on the DU central mosque premises after Asr prayers Saturday. He will be buried at his village Syedabad of Kasba Upazila in Brammanbaria.

Late Abdul Mannan Khan was a professor in Arabic Department of the university. He joined the department as a lecturer in 1968.

DU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique expressed deep shock at the death of Prof Khan.

The DU VC prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family, a DU press release said.
