Indian militant leader Mufti Sheikh Obaidullah was taken on a seven day police remand by the Detective Branch (DB) of Police from Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court Saturday, reports BSS.

Obaidullah, reportedly linked to Harkatul Jihad al Islami (HuJI) and Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba and India's Asif Reza Commando Force (ARCF) and sought by Indian authorities, was arrested near Buriganga second bridge at Babubazar in the city Thursday after he had been hiding for 14 years in hiding.

A senior official of DB told the news agency that Obaidullah was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Dr Abdul Majid under tight security measures with a prayer for his 10 days police remand.

He was shown arrested in connection with two criminal cases filed with Kotwali Police Station. Police filed the cases-one is under Foreigner's Act and the other is under Passport Act.

The official quoting court sources said that the Magistrate granted seven days police remand after hearing the statement of the prosecution side.

After the grant of remand, Obaidullah was again taken back to the DB office for interrogation.

The DB police arrested him after one and half months of manhunt in line with statements of another Indian underworld operative Dawdood merchant in and outside the capital including Shibchar area in Madaripur district.
