The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Biplobi Workers' Party have protested the government proposal to increase price of gas and electricity, reports bdnews24.com.
CPB president Manjurul Ahsan Khan and general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim in a statement Friday said higher prices would make essential goods pricier and spell more sufferings for low-income people.
They suggested the government rather curb corruption and wastage in the energy sector.
Biplobi Workers' Party president Khondoker Ali Abbas and general secretary Saiful Huq in a separate statement asked the government not to tax people to raise funds to develop energy and power sector.
They asked the government to postpone the initiative.
