President Zillur Rahman Sunday urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to continue its ongoing fight against corruption without making any compromise with a view to building a corruption-free society, reports UNB.
"The ACC will need to remain firm with its ethics and values," he said while new ACC Chairman Golam Rahman paid a courtesy call on the President at Bhangabhaban in the afternoon.
During the meeting, the ACC chairman apprised the President of the ongoing activities of the Commission and sought the President's cooperation in the discharge of his duties.
The President gave the ACC chairman a patient hearing and assured him of all-out support in performing his responsibilities.
Saying that there should be no compromise with corruption, the President observed that all are equal in the eyes of law and urged the ACC chairman to uphold the rule of justice.
Later, the ACC chairman told the awaiting journalists that he would need three months time as preparation for doing his new task in full swing. "But during these three months, the continuity of ACC's regular task will continue," he said.
Golam Rahman said the President assured him of providing all sorts of cooperation to the ACC for eradicating corruption from the country.
Expressing his gratitude to the President for keeping confidence in him, the ACC chairman also assured the President that he would discharge his duties impartially and in a fair manner.
Replying to a question, the new ACC chief said the Commission would take legal measures in case of any specific allegation against anybody.
"Everybody is equal to the eyes of law and all activities will be scrutinised," he said, adding that the ACC laws are very specific and it will take steps as per the laws.
