Bangladesh Independent Garments Workers Federation (BIGWF) has demanded a wage commission in line with the market price for the 2.4 million 'neglected and oppressed' garment workers of the country, a press release said.

BIGWF urged the government to supply ration including rice, pulse, oil, soap and sugar at reasonable prices at every gate of factories.

The Federation made the demand Friday at an emergency meeting, which was chaired by its president Anjuman Ara Yasmin.

The members of the Federation condemned the killing of Al Amin, a worker of Suhi Industrial Park Sweater Factory, who was shot dead by Ansar force at Savar Jamgar on June 27.

They also demanded compensation for the dead and injured people and financial support for the dead people's families.

BIGWF placed an eight-point charter of demands including giving of appointment letter within 90 days, service book, identity card, separate prayer places for male and female workers in every factory, 8-hour working period, double salary for working beyond 5 pm and payment of salary by the 7th of every month.
