The first 'NRB Manpower Development and Opportunities Conference 2009' kicks off today (Thursday) at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel with the theme 'A Third Approach to Nation Building'.

The three-day conference will be inaugurated by President Zillur Rahman at 6:00pm.

Speaking on the occasion in a press conference in the city Wednesday, the organisers said there is no way for Bangladesh but to build skilled workforce to meet the global demand for efficient labour to continue her remittance growth..

The press conference was jointly organised by Scholars Bangladesh and Human Capital Development Limited.

Dr Atiur Rahman, governor of Bangladesh Bank and adviser of Scholars Bangladesh, will also attend the opening ceremony.

"Bangladeshi workers in the global market are employed in low-paid jobs mainly because they are not skilled compared to those from the neighbouring countries," said M E Chowdhury Shamim, founder and president of Scholars Bangladesh.
