CHITTAGONG, June 30: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury expressed his regret over non-realisation of holding taxes in time. He said that only 17 per cent of holding taxes was realised and the rest 83 per cent remained unrealised almost every year.

He was speaking at a post-budget press conference in the port city Monday after his announcement of the CCC budget Sunday worth Tk 31.27 billion, the highest one in its history.

City mayor said development of Chittagong had so far been hampered due to lack of adequate allocation of fund in the budgets. So, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had declared in her election menifesto that she had taken over the responsibility of development of Chittagong, he said.

Accordingly, CCC proposed implementation of projects including the fly-over from Dewanhat crossing to Patenga at a cost of Tk 15 billion and Marine Drive from Kalurghat bridge to Patenga worth Tk 10 billion for infrastructure development, lessening of intolerable traffic congestion and also protecting the city from tidal surge.
