BJ International Company (Pvt) Ltd, a Bangladesh-Japan joint venture, is ready to generate 1000 MW electricity by installing modern eco-friendly wind turbines in Bangladesh.

"We are ready to develop the latest wind-generated power production technology here. But as it is so costly government assistance is very important to us." Jun Tsutsumida, chairman of BJ International, said at a press conference at a city hotel Monday.

Mustafizur Rahman, managing director of the company, quoted a Dhaka University study conducted in 2007 that said wind force in Bangladesh could easily generate 1,000 to 2000 MW electricity.

We will formally launch our commodity supply services with energy-saving bulbs; the latest digital security systems and video-conference appliances on July 1, said Mr Mustafiz.

Mr Tsutsumida said BJ International would start marketing the digital security system and latest video communication technology and communication technology devices (IT products) immediately. LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps, chemical-free preservation of agricultural produces, IP phones, drug manufacturing and hospital construction work in phases.

Describing the benefit of the LED lamp, he said it consumes half the power that the available fluorescent lamp burns. It costs less than the fluorescent lamp but lasts seven to eight times more, he added. At first they would import it in bulk and later according to local demand assemble and manufacture the product in phases.

He added that the state-of-the-art digital security system would provide foolproof security to establishments where it is installed. "By installing the internet-based security system, one can even monitor what is happening in one's establishment from anywhere," he said.

The video communication technology will facilitate videoconference and easy transfer of video data. It will greatly benefit the television channels and other organisations transmitting video data.

The company has plans to enhance crop production through improving soil fertility and providing assistance in chemical-free preservation of agricultural produces like vegetables, fruits and fish.

"We will not take our profits back as other business people do. We will run business for three generations. After the first three years the capital build on profit will be invested in new business plans," said Mr Tsutsumida.

Ro Shogen, vice chairman and Keiichi Miyamoto, general manager of BJ International were present at the press conference.
