Armed bandits Saturday shot the caretaker of an under-construction building in the city's Kafrul area as they were denied toll by the house owner.

The wounded caretaker, Mohammad Khaled (50), was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Talking to this reporter the victim said, three extortionists came to the construction site at midday and shot him in the abdomen before leaving.

He also said that the group had sent a chit to the house owner a few days ago demanding toll.
