GOPALGANJ, May 22: New Gopalganj district jail will start functioning from middle of next month.

According to official reports of PWD, Gopalganj, above 95 per cent construction works of Gopalganj District Jail has been completed.

Perimeter wall, gate, inside boundary, office, under judgement prisoner bench No-1 and No-2, convicted prisoner bench (male), convicted prisoner bench (female), hospital building, wards bench, prisoner cell, jailer residence, 1000sft staff quarters (two units), 800sft staff quarters (three units), 600sft staff quarters (two units), sanitary with electrification and different work of the district jail will be completed very soon, sources said.

According to official records, PWD, Gopalganj took possession of six acres of land in 1993. A site was selected at Gosherchar in municipality area for construction of the district jail and the work started functioning fifteen years ago (1996-97). But construction work was delayed due to lack of fund.

While talking to the FE, Md Mizanur Rahman, executive engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) of Gopalganj said recently, Gopalganj district jail will function from next month.
