RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, May 22: Research works of the teachers of Rajshahi University (RU) are published only for getting promotion in their academic services. Because a large number of these research works are not helpful to the students in their academic life as reference, and not helping any interest of the country, sources said.

Above 50 per cent of these research publications are false while several teachers of Arts and Social Sciences faculty have been publishing incomplete or copy of other journals and articles, published from other Universities, said former RU Registrar Prof. M Shafi.

Last year, a teacher of Arabic Dept published an article in the University faculty journal which had already been published in a journal book of Islamic University (IU), complained Registrar of IU to RU Registrar.

RU Controller Dr Anowar Hossain said that an author has submitted the same article in two publication papers by changing his name.

Many publications have no international quality, even serving teachers are obtaining their M Phil and PhD degrees from different irrelevant and out of academic requirements ground, only for quick promotion in jobs.

An associate professor of Islamic Studies Dept obtained his MPhil and PhD degrees on a thesis titled "Sirajganj contribution on expansion of Hadis". But this research does not leave any contribution to the students of honours, masters and thesis group of that Dept, said a large number of students.

The University authority has to spend a lot of money to obtain these journals, researches and degrees while students are not getting any feedback.

Several teachers, who have obtained degrees from abroad said that teachers of foreign Universities do their research work, not thinking about early seniority or promotion.
