JOYPURHAT, May 9: Boro production may exceed target in the district in the current IRRI-Boro season, sources says.
In this season, 70 thousand hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation and the production target has been fixed at 2,77440 tonnes. But the Joypurhat Agriculture Extension Department (DAE) expects that the production will exceed the target.
The cultivation of the crop, however, was hampered due to some problems like inadequate supply of electricity, fertiliser crisis, hot weather etc, claimed the farmers of different areas in the district. They are also worried about the possibility of not getting fair price of the crop.
Ahmedur Rahman, a farmer of Mahaudpur under Akkelpur Upazila who cultivated Boro paddy on three acres of land and expected 300 maunds of paddy, said they faced various problems while cultivating the crop this year.
Deputy Director of Joypurhat DAE Moshin Ali said, the production target in the district has been achieved because farmers cultivated the crop according to guidelines given to them, and the weather was also favourable.
