Traders assured Monday the Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan that the maximum retail price of lentil (Mashur) will not exceed Tk100 per kg. This price would remain the same during Ramadan as well, they pledged.

The assurance came when the leaders of Bangladesh Pulse Businessmen Association met the minister at his office. They also informed the minister that the stock of pulse in the market is adequate following a good harvest this year.

"The price would decrease further provided the import continues and India lifts it's export restrictions to Bangladesh," the businessmen expressed during the meeting.

The minister discussed in length over matters related to distribution and marketing of pulse with the businessmen during the meeting.

The Commerce Minister also promised to consider eradicating complications, including opening of LC and bank transactions for the pulse dealers as per their demands. He however urged them to narrow down the price variance between wholesale and retail markets.

Commerce Secretary Feroz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Mustafa Mohiuddin, General Secretary of Bangladesh Pulse Businessmen Association Md. Shafikul Islam and other members of the business body were also present at the meeting.
