JAYPURHAT, May 04: Thunder-storms damaged severely houses and crops and 12 were critically injured in 5 upazilas under the district on Sunday noon.

The storms accompanied by heavy rain began at about 1pm on Sunday and stayed for half an hour and wrought havoc in a number of villages at Dhalaher, Dugachi, Vadsha in Sadar Upazila, Bagjana, Atapur, Karia in Panchbibi Upazila, Rukindipur in Akkelpur, Barotara, Battali under Khetlal Upazila and Begungram, Harunja with Kalai sadar in Kalai Upazila. At least 12 persons were injured in 5 upazilas and 300 non-brick houses were completely damaged, more than a thousand trees were uprooted, standing boro, Maize, vegetables crops on about thousand acres were damaged when the storm swept over the area.
