The third International Telecommunications Fair 2009 will begin on June 8 at the city's Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center on the theme of 'Growing Towards a Digital Bangladesh'.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the five-day telecom fair under the aegis of the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Businessmen Association (BMBA).
Ministers of finance, posts and telecommunications, commerce, senior government officials among others are also expected to attend the inaugural ceremony.
This was disclosed at a press conference organized by BMBA at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium in the city on Monday.
The main objective of the fair is to help build a modern technology based digital Bangladesh, said BMBA president Eng. Md. Nizam Uddin Jitu.
He said that the fair would help create new business scopes for different mobile phone operators, importers of mobile handset and accessories, distributors and telecommunication institution.
The BMBA president urged the government to take necessary steps for setting up mobile phone set manufacturing units in the country.
Among others former Chairman of BTRC and Chief Adviser of BMBA Syed Margub Morshed, Director of FBCCI Golam Dastagir Gazi Birprotik, MP, First Vice President of FBCCI Syed Abul Kashem Ahmed and Director in Charge of Standing Committee on Telecommunication of FBCCI Md. Kohioor Islam were present at the press conference.
