CDA finalises Tk 190b IT projects

CHITTAGONG, Apr 25: With an aim to build a 'Digital Chittagong' Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has finalised its midterm plan of undertaking research and maximum utilisation of information technology (IT) projects at an estimated cost of Tk 190 billion, CDA sources said.

The implementation of the plan under the midterm budget would infuse special dimension to the goal of achieving a digital Bangladesh through development of Chittagong, according to the sources.

The CDA proposed working plan includes 58 projects to be implemented within 5 years beginning from 2009-2010 fiscal.

Under the CDA mega Master Plan, details of which are being worked out, garment factories, small and medium size industrial zones and integrated villages would be built at Sitakund, Hathazari, Rangunia and Raozan with a view to ensuring healthy urbanisation of the growth centres and residential areas for low income group of people and immigrants.

Experts observe that with the implementation of the projects the very shape of Chittagong city would be changed.

CDA sources said urban planners were sincerely working for presenting the working plan attaching utmost importance to the dormant geo-natural potentials. The fate of the people of Chittagong would be changed through the successful implementation of the plan, they hoped.
